Electric steering lock, location/function - GF80.57-P-4114C
MODEL 210
Function
The electronic circuitry for the electric steering lock actuates the motor and locking solenoid for the steering lock. In order to ensure operational reliability, the internal power supply, the serial data interface to the electronic ignition/starter switch and microcontrollers are redundant. The microcontrollers control execution of the "unlock/lock" command and send data to the electronic ignition/starter switch. For this purpose, it is sufficient when one of the two microcontrollers outputs "unlock or lock".
The auxiliary drive for the lock bolt is activated pulling it out of the locking ring in the steering shaft. In the unlocked position, the electronic circuitry is actuated by a limit switch.
The electronic circuitry checks the function of the limit switch and double mechanical arrest for the lock bolt. If all checks are OK, the electronic ignition/starter switch receives an enable signal and the key in the electronic ignition/starter switch can be turned.
The power supply to the electric steering lock is then interrupted. When the key is turned back to "position 0", this interruption is cancelled. If the key is removed from the electronic ignition/starter switch, the latter sends a signal to the electric steering lock. The mechanical arrest for the lock bolt is released and the lock bolt moves into the locking ring of the steering.
Function sequence in electric steering lock (ESL)
- Reception of authentication value from electronic ignition/starter switch
- Checking of authentication value
- Enable message to electronic ignition/starter switch
It is not possible to turn the key immediately after inserting it into the electronic ignition/starter switch, because the lock bolt is first retracted from the locking ring and arrested. Only then does the electronic ignition/starter switch receive the enable signal. This delay is approx. 0.5 s
