TRIP COMPUTER VERSION MARKINGS: 163 540 05 11 with orange dot OR green dot are of the latest version, and need not be replaced. Older version trip computer 163 540 01 11, may also have a colored dot marking, which are meaningless.

22M/98-2 GROUP 54 - MODEL 163, TRIP COMPUTER VERSION MARKINGS: Please be advised that the latest version of Trip Computer, 163 540 05 11 can be marked with either an ORANGE dot (as previously communicated) OR a GREEN dot. That is, Trip Computers with part number 163 540 05 11 that are marked with either a green or an orange dot are of the latest version, and need not be replaced as discussed in MB-Net Administrative Message No. 426 dated September 30, 1998. Please note that the older version trip computer, part number 163 540 01 11, may also have a colored dot marking, but in each case, these are of the older version, and the colored dot is meaningless. Finally, the automatic sending of Trip Computers for vehicles on retail hold has concluded, with all trip computers shipped to dealers. Dealers may resume normal ordering of trip computers according to need.
