SERVICE INFORMATION
10M/99-1 RECALLS AND SERVICE CAMPAIGNS: WHEN REPAIRING ANY VEHICLE, ALWAYS CHECK THE VEHICLE MASTER INQUIRY FOR OPEN CAMPAIGNS
10M/99-2 GROUP 07 - MODEL YEAR 99, ML320 (163.154) AND ML430 (163.172) CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON: After repair of any water leak that may wet the underside of the front carpet, check the terminals of the rear oxygen sensor connectors (G3/6X1 or G3/5X1) for possible corrosion. Repeated wetting of the carpet and the subsequent trapped moisture can lead to the above mentioned connector terminals becoming corroded to the point of causing an oxygen sensor to fail.
- Minimal Corrosion on Terminals:
- Clean terminals.
- Seal the electrical lines on the inside of the vehicle coming from the rear of the left (G3/5X1) and right (G3/6X1) oxygen sensor connector with sealant.NOTE: To ensure a tight seal, the connector recess should be covered 3 to 4mm thick with sealant.
- Replace oxygen sensor that visibly exhibits corrosion at the outer plug (O2 sensor plug).
- Excessive Corrosion on Terminals:
- Replace terminals and plug G3/5X1 and G3/6X1.
- Perform steps 2, 3 and 4 from procedure A stated above.
