Shift Lever Removal/Installation: Notes

Disconnect the negative battery terminal. (See NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION/CONNECTION .)
Remove the following parts:
1. Side wall (See SIDE WALL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
2. Remove the shift lever knob.

3. Shift panel (See SHIFT PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
4. Front console box (See FRONT CONSOLE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
5. Rear console (See REAR CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Press the tabs on the control cables as shown in the figure and disconnect the control cables from the shift lever. (See Control Cables (Shift Lever Side) Installation Note .)

CAUTION:
- When disconnecting the control cable from the shift lever, do not press the control cable tabs with excessive force. Otherwise, they may be damaged.
Disconnect the control cable end (shift side) from the shift lever as shown in the figure. (See Control Cables (Shift Lever Side) Installation Note .)

Press down the safety lock in the direction shown in the figure.

Push out the lock piece in the direction shown in the figure.
Disconnect the control cable end (select side) from the shift lever. (See Control Cables (Shift Lever Side) Installation Note .)
Disconnect the connector from the shift lever as shown in the figure.

Remove the rear vent duct. (With rear vent) (See REAR VENT DUCT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
Remove the shift lever.

Install in the reverse order of removal.
