Shift-Lock Release System Inspection

- Switch the ignition OFF (LOCK).
- Verify that the selector lever is in the P position.
- Verify that the selector lever cannot be shifted to the R from P position when the brake pedal is not depressed.
- Remove the shift-lock release hole cover using a tape-wrapped flathead screwdriver.
- Insert flathead screwdriver into the shift-lock release hole.
- Verify that the selector lever can be shifted to the R from P position.
- If there is any malfunction, replace the selector lever component. (See AUTOMATIC TRANSAXLE SHIFT MECHANISM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION .)
