Diagnostic Procedure

CAUTION: Use the correct probe adapter(s) when making measurements. Failure to use the correct probe adapter(s) may damage the connector.
DIAGNOSIS PROCEDURE

PINPOINT TEST 8 THE TRANSMISSION CONTROL MODULE (TCM) DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE SCAN TOOL - HYBRID
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE POWER TO THE TCM
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: TCM 140-1458a.
  • Key in ON position.
  • Measure the voltage between the TCM 140-1458a, harness side and ground:
    • pin 4 (G/BR)
    • pin 5 (G/BR)
    • pin 12 (V/R)
  • Are the voltages greater than 10 volts?
Yes GO to the next step.
No VERIFY the battery junction box (BJB) fuse 27 (10A) or fuse 8 (5A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
2 CHECK THE TCM GROUNDS
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Measure the resistance between the TCM 140-1458a, harness side and ground:
    • pin 2 (B/Y)
    • pin 8 (B/Y)
  • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes GO to the next step.
No REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
3 CHECK THE HS-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE TCM AND THE DATA LINK CONNECTOR (DLC) FOR AN OPEN
  • Measure the resistance between the TCM 140-1458a pin 1, circuit (W/L), harness side and the DLC D-01 pin 6, circuit (W/L), harness side; and between the TCM 140-1458a pin 7, circuit (W), harness side and the DLC D-01 pin 14, circuit (W), harness side.
  • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes GO to next step.
No REPAIR the circuit in question. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
4 CHECK FOR CORRECT TCM OPERATION
  • Disconnect the TCM connector.
  • Check for:
    • corrosion
    • damaged pins
    • pushed-out pins
  • Connect the TCM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
  • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
  • Are the resistances less than 5 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new TCM. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. CLEAR the DTCs. REPEAT the network test with the scan tool.
