Normal Operation

Under normal operation, when the driver window control switch is commanding the passenger window down, voltage is sent to the passenger window control switch through circuit (BR/Y) and ground through circuit (G/O). When up is commanded, voltage and ground from the driver window control switch is reversed. Voltage is supplied to the passenger window control switch through circuit (V/W). Ground is provided by the driver window control switch (at rest) through circuits (BR/Y) and (G/O). When the passenger window control switch commands the passenger window down, voltage is sent to the passenger window control motor through circuit (V) and ground through circuit (W/O). When up is commanded, voltage and ground from the passenger window control switch is reversed.

Possible Causes

SINGLE POWER WINDOW IS INOPERATIVE - PASSENGER POWER WINDOW - PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 3 SINGLE POWER WINDOW IS INOPERATIVE - PASSENGER POWER WINDOW
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE OPERATION FROM THE DRIVER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
  • Key in ON position.
  • Operate the passenger window from the driver window control switch.
  • Does the passenger window operate from the driver window control switch?
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 4.
2 CHECK THE POWER SUPPLY TO THE PASSENGER WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: passenger window control switch, 0912-202
  • Key in ON position.
  • Measure the voltage between passenger window control switch, 0912-202 pin 3, circuit (V/W) and ground.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?
Yes Install a new passenger window control switch. See WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH . Test the system for normal operation.
No Go to next step.
3 CHECK CIRCUIT (V/W) FOR AN OPEN
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: SJB J-2280c.
  • Measure the resistance between SJB J-2280c pin 13, circuit (V/W) and power window switch, passenger side front 0912-202 pin 3, circuit (V/W).
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Install a new SJB. See SMART JUNCTION BOX (SJB) , . Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair circuit (V/W) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
4 CHECK CIRCUIT (BR/Y) AND (G/O) FOR GROUND
  • Key in OFF position.
  • Disconnect: passenger window control switch, 0912-202.
  • Measure the resistance between ground and power window switch, passenger window control switch:
    • 0912-202 pin 2, circuit (BR/Y).
    • 0912-202 pin 4, circuit (G/O).
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Carry out the passenger window control switch component test. See table at the end of this pinpoint test. If the switch tests OK, go to next step.
No Carry out the driver window control switch component test. See table at the end of this test. If the switch tests OK, repair circuit (BR/Y) or (G/O) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
5 CHECK CIRCUIT (V) AND (W/O) FOR AN OPEN
  • Disconnect: passenger window control motor, 0912-203.
  • Measure the resistance between passenger window control switch:
    • 0912-202 pin 5, circuit (V) and passenger window motor 0912-203 pin 1, circuit (V).
    • 0912-202 pin 1, circuit (W/O) and passenger window motor 0912-203 pin 2, circuit (W/O).
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes Install a new passenger window motor. See FRONT DOOR WINDOW REGULATOR AND MOTOR . Test the system for normal operation.
No Repair circuit (V) or (W/O) for an open. Test the system for normal operation.
