Pinpoint Test 3: Clutch Drag

CLUTCH DRAG PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

PINPOINT TEST 3 CLUTCH DRAG
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK FLUID LEVEL
  • Key OFF.
  • Inspect the fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
  • Is the fluid level within the MAX and MIN level marks? 
Yes Go to next step.
No ADD brake fluid and CHECK for leaks in the clutch and brake systems.
2 CHECK CLUTCH PEDAL FREE PLAY
  • Press the clutch pedal lightly by hand.

  • Measure the distance the clutch pedal travels.
  • Is the clutch pedal travel within 5-13 mm (0.20-0.51 in)? 
Yes Go to next step.
No GO to PINPOINT TEST 2: CLUTCH CHATTER OR SHUDDER .
3 CHECK DIAPHRAGM SPRING
  • Remove the transaxle. See TRANSAXLE .
  • Inspect the clutch pressure plate for wear and the diaphragm spring for even diaphragm height. See CLUTCH PRESSURE PLATE CHECK .
  • Are there any signs of wear to the clutch pressure plate or diaphragm spring? 
Yes INSTALL a new clutch pressure plate. See CLUTCH DISC AND PRESSURE PLATE .
No INSPECT the clutch disc for damage or excessive runout. See CLUTCH DISC CHECK.
