Pinpoint Test 2: The Shift Control Is Out Of Correct Gear Relationship

SHIFT CONTROL OUT OF CORRECT GEAR RELATIONSHIP PINPOINT TEST REFERENCE

2 THE SHIFT CONTROL IS OUT OF CORRECT GEAR RELATIONSHIP
STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1 CHECK THE SHIFT CONTROL LINKAGE
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Press the brake pedal.
  • Gain access to the shift control cable.
  • Actuate the floor shifter in all gearshift positions.
  • Observe all linkages during operation.
  • Is the linkage damaged? 
 Yes INSTALL a new shift control cable. See SELECTOR LEVER CABLE . TEST the system for normal operation.
No Go to next step.
2 CHECK THE SELECTOR LEVER CABLE
  • Check the selector lever cable and bracket installation.
  • Is the selector lever cable installed correctly and adjusted? 
 Yes VERIFY that the transaxle is correctly adjusted. See SELECTOR LEVER CABLE ADJUSTMENT . TEST the system for normal operation.
No ADJUST or INSTALL a new selector lever cable as necessary.
