HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR HEATER CIRCUIT INSPECTION/ACTION CHART

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1
  • Was PCM Quick Test performed?
Yes Go to next step.
No Perform PCM Quick Test. See PCM QUICK TEST  .
2 CHECK FOR VPWR IN HARNESS
  • Disconnect suspect HO2S sensor connector.
  • Key ON, Engine OFF (KOEO).
  • Measure the voltage between suspect HO2S sensor connector pin 1 and pin 3, harness side.
  • Is the voltage greater than 10.5 volts?
Yes Key OFF.
Go to next step.
No Repair open circuit.
Go to step 8.
3 CHECK HO2S HEATER FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Disconnect PCM.
  • Install Breakout Box, leave PCM disconnected.
  • Measure resistance between HO2S sensor connector pin 2, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair short circuit.
Go to step 8.
4 CHECK HO2S HEATER FOR SHORT IN HARNESS
  • Measure the resistance between HO2S sensor connector pin 2 and pins 1, 3, and 4, harness side.
  • Are the resistances greater than 10K ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair short circuit.
Go to step 8.
5 CHECK HO2S HEATER CIRCUIT FOR OPEN IN HARNESS
  • Measure resistance between PCM test pin E49 (DTC P0053), PCM test pin T47 (DTC P0054), PCM test pin E48 (DTC P0059), or PCM test pin T48 (DTC P0060) and HO2S sensor connector pin 2, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5.0 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Replace HO2S sensor.
See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 2.3L , HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 3.0L (4V) .
Go to step 8.
6 CHECK INTERNAL RESISTANCE OF HO2S HEATER
  • Measure the resistance between the suspect HO2S sensor pin 1 and pin 2, component side.
  • Is the resistance between 3 ohms - 30 ohms?
Yes Go to next step.
No Replace HO2S sensor.
See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 2.3L , HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 3.0L (4V) .
Go to step 8.
7 CHECK HO2S CASE FOR SHORT TO VPWR, HTR, AND SIGNRTN
  • Measure the resistance between the suspect HO2S sensor pin 2 and pin 3, component side.
  • Measure the resistance between the suspect HO2S sensor pin 2, component side and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms?
Yes Replace PCM.
See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
Go to next step.
No Replace HO2S sensor.
See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 2.3L , HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 3.0L (4V) .
Go to next step.
8 VERIFY TROUBLESHOOTING OF DTCs COMPLETED
  • Make sure to reconnect all disconnected connectors.
  • Clear DTCs from PCM memory using WDS or equivalent tester generic OBD II function.
  • Perform PCM Quick Test. See PCM QUICK TEST  .
  • Is same DTC present?
Yes Replace PCM.
See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
Repeat PCM Quick Test. See PCM QUICK TEST  .
No If any other DTC is present, go to applicable DTC inspection.
If no DTC is present, troubleshooting complete.
