Fuel System Not Switching At Fuel Trim (Rich Or Lean)

NOTE: The following test procedures are for DTCs P1130 and P1150.

FUEL SYSTEM SWITCHING AT FUEL TRIM INSPECTION/ACTION CHART

STEP INSPECTION ACTION
1
  • Was PCM Quick Test performed? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Perform PCM Quick Test. See PCM QUICK TEST  .
2 PERFORM KOER SELF-TEST
  • Disconnect the fuel vapor hose from the intake manifold and plug fitting at the intake manifold.
  • Start engine and run at 2,000 RPM for 5 minutes, then return to idle.
  • Perform Key ON, Engine Running (KOER) Self-Test.
  • Check Self-Test DTCs.
  • Are DTCs P0040, P1128, P0021, P1129, P1127, or P0402 present? 
Yes Key OFF.
Disregard current DTCs at this time. Go to DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE NUMBERS  to continue diagnosis of other DTCs.
No Key OFF.
Go to next step.
3 DETERMINE DTC BEING DIAGNOSED
  • Check Self-Test DTCs.
  • Are DTCs P1131, P2195, P1152, or P2197 present)? 
Yes Key OFF.
Go to step 5.
No Go to next step.
4 DETERMINE DTC BEING DIAGNOSED
  • Check Self-Test DTCs.
  • Are DTCs P1132, P2196, P1152, or P2198 present? 
Yes Go to step 12.
No Go to TEST 3: INTERMITTENT  .
5 HO2S CIRCUIT TEST
  • Disconnect suspect HO2S sensor.
  • Install a jumper wire between suspect HO2S sensor connector pin 1 and pin 4, harness side.
  • Key ON, Engine Running (KOER).
  • Access the PCM-HO2S Signal PID using WDS or equivalent tester.
  • Is the voltage greater than 1.3 volts? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Go to step 7.
6 CHECK SIGRTN CIRCUIT FOR OPEN IN HARNESS
  • Key OFF.
  • Measure resistance between suspect HO2S sensor connector pin 3, harness side and ground.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Replace the suspect HO2S sensor. See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 2.3L , HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 3.0L (4V) .
Go to step 14.
No Go to next step.
7 CHECK HO2S CIRCUIT(S) FOR OPEN IN HARNESS
  • Disconnect PCM.
  • Install Breakout Box, leave PCM disconnected.
  • Measure the resistance between PCM test pin E30 (DTC P1130) or PCM test pin E26 (DTC P1150) and suspect HO2S sensor connector pin 3, harness side.
  • Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? 
Yes Repair open circuit.
Go to step 14.
No Go to next step.
8 CHECK HO2S SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO SIGTRN IN HARNESS
  • Measure the resistance between PCM test pin E30 (DTC P1130) or PCM test pin E26 (DTC P1150) and PCM test pin E41.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair short circuit.
Go to step 14.
9 CHECK HO2S SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND IN HARNESS
  • Measure the resistance between PCM test pin E30 (DTC P1130) or PCM test pin E26 (DTC P1150) and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Repair short circuit.
Go to step 14.
10 CHECK HO2S SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO SIGRTN
  • Connect any disconnected HO2S sensor connectors.
  • Measure resistance between PCM test pin E30 (DTC P1130) or PCM test pin E26 (DTC P1150) and PCM test pin E41.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms? 
Yes Go to next step.
No Replace the suspect HO2S sensor.
See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 2.3L , HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 3.0L (4V) .
Go to step 14.
11 CHECK HO2S SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO GROUND
  • Measure the resistance between PCM test pin E30 (DTC P1130) or PCM test pin E26 (DTC P1150) and ground.
  • Is the resistance greater than 10K ohms? 
Yes Replace PCM.
See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
Go to step 14.
No Replace the suspect HO2S sensor.
See HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 2.3L , HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR (HO2S) AND CATALYST MONITOR SENSOR - 3.0L (4V) .
Go to step 14.
12 HO2S CIRCUIT TEST
  • Disconnect suspect HO2S connector.
  • Key ON, Engine Running (KOER).
  • Access the HO2S V PID using WDS or equivalent tester.
  • Is the voltage below 0.2 volts? 
Yes Key OFF.
Replace the suspect HO2S sensor.
Go to step 14.
No Key OFF.
Go to next step.
13 CHECK HO2S CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO VPWR OR HEATER IN HARNESS
  • Use the following list to measure resistance between the appropriate PCM test pins:
    • For DTC P1130, between test pins E30 and E49, and between test pins E30 and B35.
    • For DTC P1150, between test pins E26 and E48, and between test pins E26 and B35.
  • Are the resistances greater than 10K ohms? 
Yes Replace PCM.
See POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM) .
Go to next step.
No Go to next step.
14 VERIFY REPAIR
  • Perform PCM Quick Test. See PCM QUICK TEST  .
  • Is any DTC present? 
Yes Go to applicable DTC inspection.
No Troubleshooting complete.
