Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Check for related service bulletins. Repair as necessary and go to next step.
  2. Turn ignition off. Disconnect appropriate PCM connector. PCM is mounted in front of center console, under radio. Check for damaged or corroded PCM connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step  8 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
  3. Turn ignition on. Measure voltage between PCM harness connector terminal No. 1Q (Violet/Red wire) and ground. See Figure . If voltage is not present, go to next step. If voltage is present, repair short to power in Violet/Red wire between PCM and ABS/TCS HU/CM connector terminal "R". See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step  9 .
  4. Turn ignition off. Check for continuity between PCM harness connector terminal No. 1Q (Violet/Red wire) and ground. See Figure . If continuity is not present, go to next step. If continuity is present, repair short to ground in Violet/Red wire between PCM and ABS/TCS HU/CM connector terminal "R". See Figure . See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step  8 .
  5. Disconnect appropriate PCM connector. Check for damaged or corroded PCM connector terminals. Repair as necessary, and go to step  8 . If connector terminals are okay, go to next step.
  6. Check for continuity of Violet/Red wire between PCM harness connector terminal No. 1Q and ABS/TCS HU/CM harness connector terminal "R". See Figure . If continuity is present, go to next step. If continuity is not present, repair open in Violet/Red. See WIRING DIAGRAMS article. Go to step  8 .
  7. Reconnect all connectors. Turn ignition on. Backprobing, check for AC voltage between PCM connector terminal No. 1Q (Violet/Red wire) and ground. See Figure . If AC voltage is present, go to next step. If AC voltage is not present, replace ABS/TCS HU/CM and go to next step.
  8. Reconnect all connectors. Turn ignition on. Clear DTCs. See CLEARING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. Start engine. Drive vehicle at more than 3.3 MPH. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC P1627 is present, replace PCM and go to next step. On vehicles equipped with immobilizer system, reprogram ignition key identification numbers. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. If DTC P1627 is not present, go to next step.
  9. Cycle ignition from off to on. Check for DTCs. See RETRIEVING DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If any other DTC is present, go to appropriate test.
