DTC P0500: Vehicle Speed Sensor Malfunction: Condition
DTC is set when vehicle speed signal is less than 2.3 MPH for 33.3 seconds or more. This is monitored when engine speed is more than 2000 RPM, charging efficiency is more than 20 percent (M/T) or 40 percent (A/T), and transmission is in drive, second or low (A/T), or in gear with clutch released (M/T). This is a continuous monitor. MIL is illuminated when Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects malfunction during 2 consecutive drive cycles. Possible causes are:
- PCM malfunction.
- Instrument cluster malfunction.
- Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) malfunction.
- Open or short circuit between VSS and instrument cluster.
- Open or short circuit between PCM and instrument cluster.
- Open or short circuit between output speed sensor and Transmission Control Module (TCM).
- Open or short circuit between TCM and instrument cluster.
