Diagnosis & Repair Procedure

  1. Inspect cooling fan system. See appropriate ENGINE COOLING FANS section. Repair as needed. If cooling fan system is okay, go to next step.
  2. Inspect ECT sensor. See appropriate SYSTEM/COMPONENT TESTS article in this section. Replace as needed. If ECT sensor is okay, go to next step.
  3. Inspect engine cooling system. Repair as needed. If cooling system is okay, go to next step.
  4. Erase DTC. See CLEARING CODES  under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If DTC is present, replace ECM. If DTC is not present, intermittent system malfunction may have caused DTC to originally set.
