VEHICLES AFFECTED

1996-97 Mazda MPV with VIN of JM3LV52**V0823981 and lower.

DESCRIPTION

The doors cannot be locked/unlocked using the keyless entry system transmitter. The transmitter becomes inoperative due to oscillator pin breakage within the transmitter.

To prevent oscillator pin breakage, the oscillator has been secured to the base with adhesive. If you encounter a customer complaint for this concern, replace the transmitter with a modified part.

REPAIR INFORMATION

  1. Verify the complaint.
  2. Inspect transmitter oscillator pins for damage. See Fig 1 .
    1. If damaged is found, replace the transmitter and proceed to step 3.
    2. If no damage is found, troubleshoot transmitter and keyless entry system. Repair as necessary.
  3. After replacing the transmitter, change the ID code according to the 1997 Workshop Manual, Section 9 or "Keyless Unit ID Code Change"
    NOTE: 1996 MPV refer to "Keyless Entry" in Mazda Tips of July, 1996.
  4. Verify repair.
