ISSUE & TIP

Some 1986-91 Mazda RX-7 models will experience hard starting and rough running when cold. We have discovered that the plastic around the air filter actually melts and becomes a thick goop that restricts the airflow meter door from functioning properly. This is one of the first things we check.

If inspections reveals the melted goop, we remove the air flow meter and clean it as well as possible; taking care not to open or disassemble the meter. Reinstall the air flow meter and replace the air filter.
