Power Transfer Unit

WARNING: This page is about a different variant/trim than selected.
  1. Remove the subframe. Refer to: FRONT SUBFRAME .
  2. If equipped with PTU cooling system, drain the cooling system. Refer to: COOLING SYSTEM DRAINING, VACUUM FILLING AND BLEEDING .
  3. Remove the RH halfshaft. Refer to: Front Halfshaft RH - 3.0L EcoBoost, All-Wheel Drive (AWD) .
  4. Disconnect the HO2S electrical connector.

  5. Disconnect the catalyst monitor electrical connector.

  6. Remove and discard the driveshaft to PTU bolt and washer assemblies.

  7. Position aside the driveshaft.
    1. Mark the driveshaft and PTU flange alignment.
    2. Separate the driveshaft from the PTU flange.
    3. Push the engine forward and position aside the driveshaft.

  8. Remove the RH catalytic converter to transmission bracket bolts.

  9. Remove the RH catalytic converter bracket through bolt and bracket.

  10. Remove and discard the RH catalytic converter nuts. Remove the RH catalytic converter.

  11. Remove and discard the converter gasket.

  12. Disconnect the PTU temperature sensor.

  13. Remove the PTU heat shield bolts and the PTU heat shield.

  14. Disconnect and position aside the PTU vent hose.

  15. Remove the PTU support bracket bolts and the PTU support bracket.

  16. If equipped with PTU cooling system. Release the hose clamps and position aside the PTU cooling system hoses.

  17. Remove the PTU bolts and the PTU.

  18. Remove and discard the PTU to transmission compression seal.
