Pinpoint Test l: C1278, U0131, U0428: Notes

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

When the ignition is ON the PSCM sends messages to the ABS module over the HS-CAN. If the ABS module does not receive these messages within a certain time frame, the ABS module sets a DTC. For information on the messages sent to the ABS module by the PSCM, refer to the Network Message Chart in Anti-Lock Control .

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

DTC Description Fault Trigger Conditions
C1278 Steering Wheel Angle 1 and 2 Signal Faulted This DTC sets when the steering wheel angle sensor data received from the PSCM over the HS-CAN is out of range and does not agree with other supporting sensor data.
U0131 Lost Communication With Power Steering Control Module (VAPS) This DTC sets in continuous memory and on-demand in the ABS module if any of the steering angle data messages are missing from the PSCM. This can be due to an ABS module failure, a circuit failure on the HS-CAN or an excessive load on the network.
U0428 Invalid Data Received from Steering Angle Sensor Module This DTC sets in continuous memory when the steering angle data messages contain a value either of "Unknown" or "Fault" instead of the actual steering angle information. This can be due to an ABS module failure, a circuit failure on the HS-CAN or an excessive load on the network.
