Inspection and Verification

  1. Verify the customer concern.
  2. Visually inspect for obvious signs of mechanical or electrical damage.
    VISUAL INSPECTION CHART

    Mechanical Electrical
    • Front bumper cover
    • Battery Junction Box (BJB) fuse(s):
      • 15 (15A) (with adaptive cruise control)
      • 46 (15A)
    • Brake lamp relay (with adaptive cruise control, located in the BJB)
    • Wiring, terminals or connectors
    • Cruise control deactivator switch
    • Cruise control switch
    • PCM
    • ABS module (with adaptive cruise control)
  3. If an obvious cause for an observed or reported concern is found, correct the cause (if possible) before proceeding to the next step.
  4. Inspect for a damaged Cruise-Control Module (C-CM) bracket, bumper beam or front bumper cover. Repair all damaged components first. After the damage is repaired, carry out the vertical alignment procedure. Refer to CRUISE CONTROL MODULE (C-CM) (WITH SENSOR) ADJUSTMENT . If the C-CM bracket is damaged, replace the bracket. Refer to CRUISE-CONTROL MODULE (C-CM) .
    5. NOTE: Make sure to use the latest scan tool software release.
  5. If the cause is not visually evident, connect the scan tool to the Data Link Connector (DLC).
    6. NOTE: The Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) LED prove-out confirms power and ground from the DLC are provided to the VCM.
  6. If the scan tool does not communicate with the vehicle:
    • Verify the ignition is ON.
    • The air bag warning indicator prove-out confirms ignition ON (other indicators may NOT prove ignition is ON) confirms ignition ON. If ignition does not turn ON, refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCHES article to diagnose no power in RUN.
    • Verify the scan tool operation with a known good vehicle.
    • Refer to MODULE COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK article, Inspection and Verification to establish a scan tool session.
    7. NOTE: The ignition must be OFF to carry out the RFA module self-test.
  7. Carry out the self-test diagnostics for the Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module, C-CM and PCM.
  8. If the DTCs retrieved are related to the concern, go to DTC CHARTS . For all other DTCs, refer to the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Chart in MULTIFUNCTION ELECTRONIC MODULES article.
  9. If no DTCs related to the concern are retrieved, GO to SYMPTOM CHART .
