Test C: Fault On Tan/Orange And/Or Pink/Light Blue Wire
- Was fault code 0003 retrieved for both the Tan/Orange and Pink/Light Blue wires? If yes, go to step 3 . If no, go to next step.
- Was fault code 0003 retrieved for the Tan/Orange wire? If yes, go to step 6 . If no, go to step 10 .
- Inspect the DLC connector terminals No. 2 and 10 for bad terminals and wire connections. Are the terminals and connections okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, service terminals and wire connections. Restore connections and run the Data Link Diagnostic Test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between DLC connector terminals No. 2 and 10. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to step 14 . If no, go to next step.
- Make sure the ignition switch is in OFF position. Disconnect the powertrain control module connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between DLC connector terminal No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire) and PCM connector terminal No. 16 (Orange wire). Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between DLC connector terminal No.10 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and PCM connector terminal No. 15 (Pink/Light Blue wire). Are both resistances less than 5 ohms? If yes, verify that the New Generation Star (NGS) Tester is functioning properly. Run the Data Link Diagnostic Test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM. If no, replace the Tan/Orange and Pink/Light Blue wires. Restore connections and run the Data Link Diagnostic Test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Inspect DLC connector terminal No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire) and the wire connection to terminal No. 2. Is the terminal and wire connection okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the terminal. Restore connections and run the Data Link Diagnostic Test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Disconnect the PCM connector. Make sure the ignition is in OFF position. Measure the resistance between DLC connector terminal No. 2 and PCM connector terminal No. 16. Is the resistance less than 5 ohms? If yes, go to next step. If no, replace the Tan/Orange and Pink/Light Blue wires. Restore connections and run the Data Link Diagnostic Test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Measure the voltage between DLC connector terminal No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire) and terminal No. 5 (Black/Pink or Black/White wire). Is the voltage 0 volts? If yes, go to step 14 . If no, go to next step.
- Measure the voltage between DLC connector terminal No. 2 (Tan/Orange wire) and terminal No. 16 (Light Green/Purple or Yellow/Black wire). Is voltage 0 volts? If yes, go to step 14 . If no, check NGS Tester for operation. See NEW GENERATION STAR (NGS) TESTER USAGE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Inspect DLC connector terminal No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and the wire connection to DLC connector terminal No. 10. Is the terminal and wire connection okay? If yes, go to next step. If no, service the terminal, restore connections and run the Data Link Diagnostic Test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Make sure the ignition is in OFF position. Disconnect the PCM connector. Using an ohmmeter, measure the resistance between DLC connector terminal No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and PCM connector terminal No. 15 (Pink/Light Blue).
- Using a DVOM, measure the voltage between DLC connector terminal No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue) and terminal No. 5 (Black/Pink or Black/White wire). Is the voltage 0 volts? If yes, go to step 14 . If no, go to next step.
- Using an ohmmeter, measure the voltage between DLC connector terminal No. 10 (Pink/Light Blue wire) and terminal No. 16 (Light Green/Purple or Yellow/Black wire). Is the voltage 0 volts? If yes, go to next step. If no, check NGS tester operation. See NEW GENERATION STAR (NGS) TESTER USAGE under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
- Disconnect harness connector C2. Run Data Link Diagnostic Test. Is the fault 0005 retrieved? If yes, go to next step. If no, go to step 16 .
- Reconnect harness connector C2. Disconnect PCM connector. Run Data Link Diagnostic Test. Is the fault 0005 retrieved? If yes, replace the PCM. Restore connections. Run Data Link Diagnostic Test. If no, replace the Tan/Orange and Pink/Light Blue wires between the PCM connector and the in-line connector C2. Restore connections and run Data Link Diagnostic Test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM..
- With all connections restored, disconnect the EATC connector. Run the Data Link Diagnostic Test. Is the fault 0006 retrieved? If yes, replace the EATC. Restore connections. Run Data Link Diagnostic Test. If no, replace the Tan/Orange and Pink/Light Blue wires between the DLC and harness connector C5 or EATC connector. Restore connections and run the Data Link Diagnostic Test. See DATA LINK DIAGNOSTICS under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
