Draining & Refilling

  1. To drain torque converter on AOT transmission, remove lower engine dust cover. Rotate torque converter until drain plug is accessible. Remove plug and allow to drain. Flush cooler lines completely. This procedure must be done before any other operation.
  2. On "pan-filled" C-5 transmissions, disconnect fluid filler tube from transmission pan to drain fluid. Remove oil pan.
  3. On A4LD transmissions, loosen oil pan attaching bolts to drain fluid. Remove oil pan. On all except AOT transmissions, remove and clean filter screen. Reinstall filter screen using a new gasket. On AOT transmissions, discard used filter and gasket. Install new filter and gasket. On all models, clean oil pan, and install pan with new gasket.
  4. On "pan-filled" C-5 transmissions, connect fluid filler tube to oil pan and tighten fitting. On all models, pour 3 quarts 2.8L) of fluid through filler tube. Check fluid level.
