TRAIL Switch Circuit [09/2023 - ]: Procedure

  1. CHECK CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM 
    1. Using the GTS, check for DTCs.

      Refer to DIAGNOSIS SYSTEM [09/2023 - ]

    2. Check that DTCs indicating a CAN communication system malfunction are not output.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      DTCs are not output. A
      DTCs are output. B

    Result: 

    GO TO CAN COMMUNICATION SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [09/2023 - ]

  2. CHECK TRAIL INDICATOR 
    1. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
    2. Check that the TRAIL indicator illuminates and turns off in accordance with the operation of the TRAIL mode switch (electric parking brake switch assembly).

      OK

      The TRAIL indicator illuminates and turns off in accordance with the operation of the TRAIL mode switch.

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    USE SIMULATION METHOD TO CHECK. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [09/2023 - ]

  3. READ VALUE USING GTS (TRAIL SWITCH) 
    1. Read the Data List according to the display on the GTS.

      Chassis > Four Wheel Drive > Data List 

      Tester Display Measurement Item Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      Trail Switch TRAIL mode switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) condition OFF / ON ON: TRAIL mode switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) being pushed and held
      OFF: TRAIL mode switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) not operated

      Chassis > Four Wheel Drive > Data List 

      Tester Display
      Trail Switch

      OK

      The GTS display changes according to the TRAIL mode switch operation.

      Result

    Result:

    CHECK METER / GAUGE SYSTEM. Refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [09/2023 - 12/2023]  , or refer to  HOW TO PROCEED WITH TROUBLESHOOTING [12/2023 - ]

    NG

  4. INSPECT TRAIL MODE SWITCH (ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY) 

    Refer to INSPECTION [09/2023 - ]

    REPLACE TRAIL MODE SWITCH (ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY). Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2023 - ]

  5. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (TRAIL MODE SWITCH (ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY) - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the D22 TRAIL mode switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) connector.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      D22-7 (E) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    Result: 

    OK

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (4WD ECU ASSEMBLY - TRAIL MODE SWITCH (ELECTRIC PARKING BRAKE SWITCH ASSEMBLY)) 
    1. Disconnect the J7 4WD ECU assembly connector.
    2. Disconnect the D22 TRAIL mode switch (electric parking brake switch assembly) connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      J7-18 (OMS) - D22-5 (B) Always Below 1 Ω
      J7-18 (OMS) or D22-5 (B) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

      Result

      Proceed to
      OK
      NG

    Result: 

    OK 

    REPLACE 4WD ECU ASSEMBLY. Refer to  REMOVAL [09/2023 - ] 

    Result: 

    NG 

    REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
