Installation [09/2014 - ]: Procedure

  1. INSTALL SCAVENGING PUMP ASSEMBLY 

    See step  1

  2. INSTALL NO. 3 OIL PIPE 

    See step  2

  3. INSTALL NO. 2 OIL PIPE 

    See step  3

  4. INSTALL NO. 1 OIL PIPE 

    See step  4

  5. INSTALL INLET WATER PIPE 

    Refer to PROCEDURE - Step 49

  6. INSTALL TIMING GEAR CASE OR TIMING CHAIN CASE OIL SEAL 
    1. Apply MP grease to the lip of a new timing chain case or timing chain case oil seal.
    2. Using SST and a hammer, tap in the timing chain case or timing chain case oil seal until its surface is flush with the timing chain cover assembly edge.

      0 to 1.0 mm (0 to 0.0394 in.)

      NOTE:
      • Keep the lip free from foreign matter.
      • Do not tap in the timing chain case or timing chain case oil seal at an angle.
      • Do not tap in the oil seal excessively.
  7. INSTALL TIMING CHAIN COVER ASSEMBLY 
    1. Remove any old packing remaining on the sealing surfaces before applying seal packing.
    2. Clean the contact surfaces of the timing chain cover assembly, cylinder head sub-assembly, cylinder head LH and cylinder block sub-assembly and confirm that there is no oil, moisture or other foreign matter on the surfaces.

    3. Install a new oil pump gasket.

    4. Install a new O-ring.

    5. Apply seal packing in a continuous line to the timing chain cover assembly as shown in the illustration.

      Seal Packing

      Toyota Genuine Seal Packing Black, Three Bond 1207B or equivalent

      SEAL PACKING APPLICATION CHART

      NOTE:
      • If there is oil on the contact surfaces, wipe them with an oil-free cloth before applying seal packing.
      • Install the timing chain cover assembly within 3 minutes and tighten the bolts within 10 minutes of applying seal packing.
      • Do not add engine oil for at least 2 hours after installing the timing chain cover assembly.
      • Do not start the engine for at least 2 hours after installing the timing chain cover assembly.
    6. Align the oil pump drive rotor spline and the crankshaft as shown in the illustration, and install the timing chain cover assembly.

    7. Temporarily install the timing chain cover assembly with the 30 bolts and nut.

      Bolt (E) 80 mm (3.15 in.) 10 mm (0.394 in.)
      Bolt (F) 80 mm (3.15 in.) 10 mm (0.394 in.)
      Bolt (G) 80 mm (3.15 in.) 8 mm (0.315 in.)

      NOTE:

      Make sure that there is no oil on the bolt threads.

    8. Tighten the 11 bolts in several steps in the order shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 47 N.m (479 kgf/cm, 35 ft.lbf)

    9. Temporarily install the V-ribbed belt tensioner assembly with the bolt and hexagon bolt.

    10. Tighten the 21 bolts and nut in several steps in the order shown in the illustration.

      Torque: 23 N.m (235 kgf/cm, 17 ft.lbf)

    11. If the seal packing has seeped out at the areas (A) shown in the illustration, wipe it off.

  16. INSTALL OIL FILTER BRACKET 
    1. Install 2 new gaskets to the oil filter bracket.
    2. Install the oil filter bracket with the 2 bolts and 2 nuts.

      Torque: 21 N.m (214 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

    3. Install the oil filter bracket stay with the 2 bolts.

      Torque: 21 N.m (214 kgf/cm, 15 ft.lbf) 

  17. INSTALL FRONT WATER BY-PASS JOINT

  18. INSTALL NO. 3 V-BANK COVER BRACKET SUB-ASSEMBLY

  44. CONNECT VENTILATION HOSE

  45. INSTALL INLET NO. 1 AIR CLEANER

  46. INSTALL RADIATOR ASSEMBLY 

    Refer to INSTALLATION [09/2014 - 11/2017] , or refer to INSTALLATION [11/2017 - ]

  47. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL 
    1. Connect the cable to negative (-) battery to the negative (-) battery terminal with the nut.

      Torque: 5.5 N.m (56 kgf/cm, 49 in.lbf) 

      NOTE:

      When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected.
