DTC P0500: Vehicle Speed Sensor "A": Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (VEHICLE SPEED) 
    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / Vehicle Speed.
    5. Drive the vehicle.
    6. Read the value displayed on the Techstream.

      OK

      Vehicle speeds displayed on Techstream and speedometer display are equal.

    NG → See step   2 

    OK → See step   5 

  2. CHECK COMBINATION METER SYSTEM 
    1. Inspect the circuits that send vehicle speed signals to this system in the meter system. Refer to Speed Signal Circuit .
    2. During inspection for the meter information, if there is an instruction that indicates to go back to inspections for each system, proceed to the next step.

    NEXT: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - COMBINATION METER) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the combination meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      G3-32 (+S) - G44-18 (SPD) Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    5. Reconnect the combination meter connector.

    NG → See step   4 

    OK → See step   6 

  4. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (ECM - NO. 4 JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect the ECM connector.
    2. Disconnect the No. 4 junction block connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance (Check for Open)

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      4A-93 - G44-18 (SPD) Always Below 1 Ω
    4. Reconnect the ECM connector.
    5. Reconnect the No. 4 junction block connector.

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → REPAIR OR REPLACE NO. 4 JUNCTION BLOCK 

  5. CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS. Refer to  CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS 
  6. REPLACE ECM. Refer to  REMOVAL
