Cruise Control Switch Circuit: Procedure

  1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM

    1. Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the Techstream on.
    4. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Radar Cruise / Data List.
    5. Check the Data List for proper functioning of the cruise control main switch.
      ECM (RADAR CRUISE):

      Techstream Display Measurement Item/Range Normal Condition Diagnostic Note
      CCS Main SW M-CPU Main switch signal (Main CPU) / ON or OFF ON: Main switch ON
      OFF: Main switch OFF
      -
      Cancel Switch CANCEL switch signal / ON or OFF ON: CANCEL switch ON
      OFF: CANCEL switch OFF
      -
      SET/COAST Switch SET/COAST switch signal / ON or OFF ON: - SET switch ON
      OFF: - SET switch OFF
      -
      RES/ACC Switch RES/ACC switch signal / ON or OFF ON: + RES switch ON
      OFF: + RES switch OFF
      -

      OK

      The display changes as shown above according to switch operation.

      Result

      Result Proceed to
      OK A
      NG (all items are defective) B
      NG (1 to 3 items are defective) C

    C → See step   7 

    A → PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

    B: Go to next step 

  2. INSPECT CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH 
    1. Disconnect the cruise control main switch connector.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      1 (ECC) - 2 (R/N)
      1 (ECC) - 3 (CCS)
      Main Switch off*1 1 MΩ or higher
      1 (ECC) - 3 (CCS) Main switch on Below 2.5 Ω
      1 (ECC) - 2 (R/N) MODE Below 2.5 Ω
      1 (ECC) - 3 (CCS) + RES 236 to 244 Ω
      1 (ECC) - 3 (CCS) - SET 618 to 642 Ω
      1 (ECC) - 3 (CCS) CANCEL 1510 to 1570 Ω

      *1: Lever is in the neutral position

    NG → See step   8 

    OK: Go to next step 

  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH - SPIRAL CABLE) 
    1. Disconnect the e1 connector from the spiral cable.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester connection Condition Specified Condition
      A-1 - e1-4 Always Below 1 Ω
      A-2 - e1-1 Always Below 1 Ω
      A-3 - e1-3 Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  4. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE 
    NOTE:

    The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may cause airbag deployment. Be sure to read the page shown in the brackets.

    HINT: 

    1. Remove the spiral cable.

    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Condition Spiral Cable Position Specified Condition
      e1-1 (R/N) - E30-7 (R/N) Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right
      e1-3 (CCS) - E30-1 (CCS) Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right
      e1-4 (ECC) - E30-2 (ECC) Center Below 1 Ω
      2.5 rotations to the left
      2.5 rotations to the right

      HINT: 

      The spiral cable makes a maximum of approximately 5 rotations.

    NG → See step   9 

    OK: Go to next step 

  5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (SPIRAL CABLE - ECM) 
    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E30-1 (CCS) - A10-40 (CCS) Always Below 1 Ω
      E30-7 (R/N) - A10-37 (CCHG) Always Below 1 Ω
      E30-1 (CCS) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
      E30-7 (R/N) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK: Go to next step 

  6. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (SPIRAL CABLE - BODY GROUND)

    1. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

      Standard resistance

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E30-2 (ECC) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω

    NG → REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 

    OK → PROCEED TO NEXT SUSPECTED AREA SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE 

  7. REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  8. REPLACE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH. Refer to  REMOVAL 
  9. REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE. Refer to  REMOVAL
