Inspection Procedure

CAUTION: The vehicle is equipped with an SRS (Supplemental Restraint System) which includes components such as airbags. Before servicing (including removal or installation of parts), be sure to read the Precaution for the SRS (See AIRBAG SYSTEM ).
  1. CHECK ILLUMINATION 
    1. Check if the illumination for the multi-display, steering pad switch, glove box light, cigarette lighter, or others (seat heater switch, front seat memory switch, etc.) comes on when the light control switch is turned to the head or tail position.

      Result 

      RESULT REFERENCE

      Result Proceed to
      Illumination comes on for all components except steering pad switch. A
      Illumination comes on for all components except radio receiver. B
      Illumination comes on for all components except multi-display. C
      No illumination comes on for radio receiver, multi-display, glove box light, front seat memory switch, cigarette lighter, etc. D

    B:  Go to step  7

    C:  Go to step  8

    D: GO TO LIGHTING SYSTEM  (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE )

    A: Go to next Step 

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (BATTERY - SPIRAL CABLE) 
    1. Disconnect the E12 cable connector.
    2. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E12-12 (IL+2) - Body ground Always 11 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next Step 

  3. CHECK STEERING PAD SWITCH (STEERING PAD SIDE)

    1. Disconnect the z51 switch connector.
    2. Apply battery voltage to the connector, and check the LED illumination condition.

      OK 

      MEASUREMENT SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Measurement Condition Specified Condition
      Battery positive (+) → Terminal 1 (IL+2)
      Battery negative (-) → Terminal 8 (EAU)
      LED illuminates

    NG: REPLACE STEERING PAD  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to next Step 

  4. CHECK NO. 1 SWITCH WIRE 
    1. Disconnect the z35 cable connector.
    2. Disconnect the switch connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      z35-5 (IL+2) - 1 (IL+2) Always Below 1 Ω
      z35-8 (EAU) - 8 (EAU)

    NG: REPLACE NO. 1 SWITCH WIRE

    OK: Go to next Step 

  5. INSPECT SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY

    1. Disconnect the E12 and z35 cable connectors.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      E12-12 (IL+2) - z35-5 (IL+2) Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise Below 3 a
      Spiral cable is centered
      Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
      E12-4 (EAU) - z35-8 (EAU) Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations counterclockwise Below 3 Ω
      Spiral cable is centered
      Spiral cable is turned 2.5 rotations clockwise
      CAUTION: The spiral cable is an important part of the SRS airbag system. Incorrect removal or installation of the spiral cable may prevent the airbag from deploying. Be sure to read the Precaution for the SRS (See AIRBAG SYSTEM ).

    NG: REPLACE SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL )

    OK: Go to next Step 

  6. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (SPIRAL CABLE - RADIO RECEIVER) 
    1. Disconnect the F23 receiver connector.
    2. Disconnect the E12 cable connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F23-6 (SWG) - E12-4 (EAU) Always Below 1 Ω
      F23-6 (SWG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  (See PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  )

  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (RADIO RECEIVER - COMBINATION METER AND BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the F1 receiver connector.
    2. Disconnect the E77 meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F1-12 (ILL-) - E77-17 (ILL-) Always Below 1 Ω
      F1-12 (ILL-) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F1-2 (ILL+) - Body ground Light control switch tail or head 11 to 14 V

    NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: REPLACE RADIO RECEIVER ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

  8. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTI-DISPLAY - COMBINATION METER AND BATTERY) 
    1. Disconnect the F28 display connector.
    2. Disconnect the E77 meter connector.
    3. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Resistance 

      STANDARD RESISTANCE

      Tester Connection Condition Specified Condition
      F28-5 (HILL) - E77-17 (ILL-) Always Below 1 Ω
      F28-5 (HILL) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher
    4. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard Voltage 

      STANDARD VOLTAGE

      Tester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition
      F28-12 (ILL+) - Body ground Light control switch tail or head 11 to 14 V

    B: REPLACE MULTI-DISPLAY ASSEMBLY  (See REMOVAL  )

    A: REPLACE DISPLAY AND NAVIGATION MODULE DISPLAY  (See REMOVAL )
