Inspection Procedure
HINT.
Read freeze frame data using the Techstream The ECM records vehicle and driving condition information as freeze frame data the moment a DTC is stored When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can be helpful in determining whether the vehicle was running or stopped, whether the engine was warmed up or not, whether the air fuel ratio was lean or rich, as well as other data recorded at the time of a malfunction
- READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM (MASS AIR FLOW RATE)
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3
- Start the engine.
- Turn the Techstream ON.
- Enter the following menus Powertrain / Engine / Data List / MAF
- Read the values displayed on the TechstreamNOTE: During the test, do not use the exhaust air duct to perform suction on the exhaust pipe.
Result
RESULT CHARTMass Air Flow Rate (g/sec.) Proceed to 0.0 A 0.62 or more B Between 0.0 and 0 62 C
B: Go to step 6
C: CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS (See CHECK FOR INTERMITTENT PROBLEMS )
A: Go to next step
- INSPECT MASS AIR FLOW METER (POWER SOURCE VOLTAGE)
- Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector
- Turn the engine switch on (IG)
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below
Standard Voltage
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Switch Condition Specified Condition E29-3 (+B) - Body ground Engine switch on (IG) 11 to 14 V - Reconnect the mass air flow meter connector
NG: Go to step 5
OK: Go to next step
- INSPECT ECM (VG VOLTAGE)
- Start the engine
- Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.
HINT
The shift lever should be in P or N and the air conditioning switch should be turned off
Standard Voltage
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E3-25 (VG) - E3-24 (E2G) Engine idling 0 5 to 3 0 V
NG: Go to step 4
OK: REPLACE ECM (See REMOVAL )
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MASS AIR FLOW METER - ECM)
- Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector
- Disconnect the ECM connector
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E29-5 (VG) - E3-25 (VG) Always Below 1 Ω E29-4 (E2G) - E3-24 (E2G) Always Below 1 Ω Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E29-5 (VG) or E3-25 (VG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the mass air flow meter connector
- Reconnect the ECM connector
NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR
OK: REPLACE MASS AIR FLOW METER (See REMOVAL )
- CHECK FUSE (EFI NO. 2 FUSE)
- Remove the EFI No. 2 fuse from the engine room No. 2 relay block
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
Standard Resistance
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition EFI No. 2 fuse Always Below 1 Ω - Reinstall the EFI No. 2 fuse.
NG: CHECK FOR SHORT IN ALL HARNESSES AND CONNECTORS CONNECTED TO FUSE AND REPLACE FUSE
OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (EFI NO. 2 FUSE - MASS AIR FLOW METER)
- INSPECT ECM (SENSOR GROUND)
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below
Standard Resistance
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E3-24 (E2G) - Body ground Always Below 1 Ω
NG: REPLACE ECM (See REMOVAL )
OK: Go to next step
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below
- CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MASS AIR FLOW METER - ECM)
- Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector.
- Disconnect the ECM connector
- Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below
Standard Resistance (Check for Open)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E29-5 (VG) - E3-25 (VG) Always Below 1 Ω E29-4 (E2G) - E3-24 (E2G) Always Below 1 Ω Standard Resistance (Check for Short)
TESTER CONNECTION SPECIFIED CONDITION CHARTTester Connection Condition Specified Condition E29-5 (VG) or E3-25 (VG) - Body ground Always 10 kΩ or higher - Reconnect the mass air flow meter connector
- Reconnect the ECM connector

OK: REPLACE MASS AIR FLOW METER (See REMOVAL )
