Inspection Procedure

HINT:

Read freeze frame data using the Intelligent tester or Techstream. Freeze frame data records the engine condition when malfunctions are detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was moving or stationary, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P2119)
    1. Connect the Intelligent tester or Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Enter the following menus:
      1. Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.
      2. Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    5. Read DTCs.

      Display (DTC Output) Proceed to
      P2119 A
      P2119 and other DTCs B

      HINT:

If any DTCs other than P2119 are output, troubleshoot those DTCs first.

B: GO TO  DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHART

    A: GO TO NEXT STEP

  2. CHECK WHETHER DTC OUTPUT RECURS (DTC P2119)
    1. Connect the Intelligent tester of Techstream to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the engine switch on (IG).
    3. Turn the tester ON.
    4. Clear DTCs (see DTC CHECK / CLEAR ).
    5. Allow the engine to idle for 15 seconds.
CAUTION: Exercise extreme care and take precautions at procedure "A" and "B" below. Failure to do so may result in the vehicle unexpectedly rolling away.
    6. Securely apply the parking brake and move the gear selector lever to the D position (Procedure "A").
    7. While depressing the brake pedal securely, fully depress the accelerator pedal for 5 seconds (Procedure "B").
    8. Enter the following menus:
      1. Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DTC INFO / CURRENT CODES.
      2. Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Engine / Trouble Codes.
    9. Read DTCs.

      HINT:

The output voltage of the throttle position sensor can be checked during procedure "B" using the Intelligent tester or Techstream. Variations in the output voltage indicate that the throttle actuator is in operation. To check the output voltage using the Intelligent tester or Techstream, enter the following menus:

      • Intelligent tester - Select: DIAGNOSIS / ENHANCED OBD II / DATA LIST / ETCS / THROTTLE POS #1.
      • Techstream - Select: Powertrain / Engine / ETCS / Throttle Position No.1.

        OK: No DTC output.

NG: REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY (See  REMOVAL  )

    OK: END
