Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Lexus RX 330. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

HINT:

Start the inspection from step 1 when using the hand-held tester, and start from step 2 when not using the hand-held tester.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and press the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the item below in the ACTIVE TEST and then check that the relay operates.

      BODY NO.1: 

      ITEM CONDITION CHART

      Item Test Details Diagnostic Note
      F FOG LIGHT RLY Turn Front fog light relay ON/OFF -
    1. NG: Go to step 2. 
    2. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  
  2. INSPECT FUSE 
    1. Inspect the FR FOG fuse and TAIL fuse in the instrument panel junction block assy.

      Standard: 

      Below 1 Ω 

    1. NG: REPLACE FUSE 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  3. INSPECT RELAY 
    1. Inspect fog lamp relay continuity.
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

        Standard: 

        TESTER SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

        Tester connection Condition Specified resistance
        3 - 5 Always 10 kΩ or higher
        3 - 5 Apply B+ between the terminal 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω
    2. Inspect tail relay continuity.
      1. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

        Standard: 

        TESTER SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

        Tester connection Condition Specified resistance
        3 - 5 Always 10 kΩ or higher
        3 - 5 Apply B+ between the terminal 1 and 2 Below 1 Ω
    1. NG: REPLACE RELAY 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  4. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY (POWER SOURCE CIRCUIT) 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      1A-1 - Body ground Always 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (BATTERY - INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY) 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  5. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      1C-1 - Body ground Light control switch TAIL and Front fog lamp switch OFF --> ON Below 1V --> 10 to 14 V
      1D-5 - Body ground Light control switch TAIL and Front fog lamp switch OFF --> ON Below 1V --> 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: Go to step 6. 
    2. OK: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
  6. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      1L-3 - Body ground Light control switch OFF --> TAIL Below 1V --> 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE  
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  7. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      1L-4 - Body ground Light control switch OFF --> TAIL Below 1V --> 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  8. INSPECT INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY 
    1. Measure the voltage according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      1I-8 - Body ground Light control switch OFF --> TAIL Below 1V --> 10 to 14 V

    1. NG: REPLACE INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to next step. 
  9. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU-INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK) 
    1. Disconnect the B7 connector of multiplex network body ECU and the 1I connector of the instrument panel junction block assy.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value (s) in the table below.

      Standard: 

      TESTER SPECIFIED CONDITION CHART

      Tester connection Condition Specified condition
      B7-7 - 1I-8 Always Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN  PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE
