Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Toyota Sienna. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.

When using hand-held tester: 

  1. CHECK DTC 
    1. Check that there is no abnormality in the communication system by inspecting the communication function of the multiplex communication system with the hand-held tester.
      1. (ECU unconnected, communication line abnormal) Without code outputs, proceed to A.
      2. (ECU unconnected, communication line abnormal) With code outputs, proceed to B.
    1. B: GO TO MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM (See  MULTIPLEX COMMUNICATION SYSTEM  ) 
    2. A: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. READ VALUE OF HAND-HELD TESTER 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch and the hand-held tester main switch ON.
    3. Select the item D DOOR CTY SW in the DATA LIST and read its value displayed on the hand-held tester.

      Standard: 

      ON: Driver side door is open 

      OFF: Driver side door is closed 

      1. NG: Go to step   4 
    4. Select the item KEY UNLK WRN SW in the DATA LIST and read its value displayed on the hand-held tester.

      Standard: 

      ON: The key is in the ignition key cylinder 

      OFF: No key is in the ignition key cylinder 

    1. NG: Go to step   6 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  3. CHECK BUZZER (COMBINATION METER) (See  COMBINATION METER  ) 
    1. NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    2. OK: REPLACE MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU 
  4. INSPECT FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH ASSY (DRIVER SIDE) 
    1. Remove the courtesy lamp switch.
    2. Check the switch continuity.

      Standard:

    1. NG: REPLACE FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  5. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU - FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the D7 switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the B9 ECU connector.
    3. Check the continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard: 

    TERMINAL SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Terminal No. Specified Condition
    B9-14 (DCTY)-D7-1 Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU 
  6. INSPECT UN-LOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Remove the un-lock warning switch.
    2. Check the switch continuity.

      Standard:

    1. NG: REPLACE UN-LOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  7. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU - UN-LOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY) (UN-LOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the B6 ECU connectors.
    2. Disconnect the K4 switch connector.
    3. Check the continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard: 

      TERMINAL SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Terminal No. Specified Condition
      B6-21 (KSW) - K4-2 Below 1 Ω
    4. Check the continuity between the K4 switch connector and body ground.

      Standard: 

    TERMINAL SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Terminal No. Specified Condition
    K4-1 - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU 

When not using hand-held tester: 

  1. CHECK FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Put the dome lamp assy No. 2 switch in the door position and open the driver side door. Then check that the courtesy lamp comes on.
    1. OK: CHECK BUZZER 
    2. NG: GO TO NEXT STEP 
  2. INSPECT FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH ASSY (DRIVER SIDE) 
    1. Remove the courtesy lamp switch.
    2. Check the switch continuity.

      Standard:

    1. NG: REPLACE FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  3. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU - FRONT DOOR COURTESY LAMP SWITCH) 
    1. Disconnect the D7 switch connector.
    2. Disconnect the B9 ECU connector.
    3. Check the continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard: 

    TERMINAL SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Terminal No. Specified Condition
    B9-14 (DCTY)-D7-1 Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  4. CHECK BUZZER (COMBINATION METER) (See  COMBINATION METER  ) 
    1. NG: REPLACE COMBINATION METER ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  5. INSPECT UN-LOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY 
    1. Remove the un-lock warning switch.
    2. Check the switch continuity.

      Standard:

    1. NG: REPLACE UN-LOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY 
    2. OK: Go to next step 
  6. CHECK WIRE HARNESS (MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU - UN-LOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY) (UN-LOCK WARNING SWITCH ASSY - BODY GROUND) 
    1. Disconnect the B6 ECU connectors.
    2. Disconnect the K4 switch connector.
    3. Check the continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard: 

      TERMINAL SPECIFIED CONDITION

      Terminal No. Specified Condition
      B6-21 (KSW) - K4-2 Below 1 Ω
    4. Check the continuity between the K4 switch connector and body ground.

      Standard: 

    TERMINAL SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Terminal No. Specified Condition
    K4-1 - Body ground Below 1 Ω

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS AND CONNECTOR 
    2. OK: REPLACE MULTIPLEX NETWORK BODY ECU
