Inspection Procedure

HINT: Read freeze frame data using the hand-held tester or the OBD II scan tool. Freeze frame data records the engine conditions when a malfunction is detected. When troubleshooting, freeze frame data can help determine if the vehicle was running or stopped, if the engine was warmed up or not, if the air-fuel ratio was lean or rich, and other data from the time the malfunction occurred.

  1. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSY (RESISTANCE OF THROTTLE CONTROL MOTOR)
    1. Disconnect the T2 throttle body connector.
    2. Measure the motor resistance between the terminals of the throttle control motor.

    NG: REPLACE THROTTLE BODY ASSY

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP.

  2. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (THROTTLE CONTROL MOTOR - ECM)
    1. Disconnect the T2 throttle body connector.
    2. Disconnect the E8 ECM connector.
    3. Check the resistance between the wire harness side connectors.

NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP.

  3. INSPECT THROTTLE BODY ASSY

Check if a foreign object has been caught between the throttle valve and housing. Also, check if the valve can open and close smoothly.

NG: REMOVE FOREIGN OBJECT AND CLEAN THROTTLE BODY

    OK: GO TO NEXT STEP.

REPLACE ECM (See  ECM (3MZ-FE)  )
