Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2005 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
  1. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR
    1. Disconnect the connectors shown in the illustration on the left from the stereo component amplifier assy and speakers.
    2. Measure the resistance between the front No. 2 speaker assy and the stereo component amplifier assy to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard: Below 1 Ω

    3. Measure the resistance between the rear speaker assy and the stereo component amplifier assy to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard: Below 1 Ω

    6. Measure the resistance between the front No. 1 speaker assy and the front No.2 speaker assy to check for an open circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard: Below 1 Ω

    7. Measure the resistance between each speaker and body ground to check for a short circuit in the wire harness.

      Standard: 10 kΩ or higher

    1. NG: REPAIR OR REPLACE HARNESS OR CONNECTOR

    OK: Go to next step.

  2. INSPECT WOOFER BOX SPEAKER ASSY
    1. Resistance check.
    2. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.
NOTE: The speaker should not be removed for checking.

    Standard:

WOOFER BOX SPEAKER ASSY TESTER CONNECTION - SPECIFIED CONDITION

    Tester connection Condition Specified condition
    1 - 3 Always Approximately 1.21 Ω
    2 - 4 Always Approximately 1.21 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE WOOFER BOX SPEAKER ASSY (SEE  W/BOX SPEAKER ASSY NO. 1  )

    OK: Go to next step.

  3. INSPECT FRONT NO.1 SPEAKER ASSY
    1. Resistance check.
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

    Standard: Approximately 2.6 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE  FRONT NO. 1 SPEAKER ASSY

    OK: Go to next step.

  4. INSPECT FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER ASSY
    1. Check that the malfunction disappears when another speaker in good condition is installed.

    OK: Malfunction disappears.

    HINT:

    • Connect all the connectors to the speakers.
    • When there is a possibility that either right or left front speaker is defective, inspect by interchanging the right one with the left one.
    1. OK: REPLACE  FRONT NO. 2 SPEAKER ASSY

    NG: Go to next step.

  5. INSPECT REAR SPEAKER ASSY
    1. Resistance check.
      1. Measure the resistance between the terminals of the speaker.

    Standard: 4 to 6 Ω

    1. NG: REPLACE  REAR SPEAKER ASSY

    OK: Go to next step.

  6. INSPECT STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER ASSY

    1. OK: REPLACE STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER ASSY (SEE  STEREO COMPONENT SPEAKER ASSY FRONT  )
