Inspection Procedure

WARNING: This page is about a different car, the 2003 Toyota 4Runner. However, it is still accessible from the selected car via links, so may be relevant.
NOTE: Start the inspection from step 1 when using the hand-held tester and start from step 2 when not using the hand-held tester.
  1. Read Value Of Hand-Held Tester (Transponder Key ECU (Switch Condition) 
    1. Connect the hand-held tester to the DLC3.
    2. Turn the ignition switch ON with the key with which the engine does not start.
    3. Select the item "KEY SW" on the hand-held tester.

      OK: Normal 

      NG: Fail 

    1. OK : Replace Transponder Key ECU Assy 
    2. NG : Go to Next Step 
  2. Inspect Unlock Warning Switch Assy 
    1. Remove the unlock warning switch.
    2. Inspect the unlock warning switch continuity.

      Standard:

    1. OK : Go to Next Step 
    2. NG : Replace Unlock Warning Switch Assy 
  3. Check Wire Harness (Transponder Key ECU Assy >--< Unlock Warning Switch) 
    1. Disconnect the T8 ECU and K3 unlock warning switch connectors.
    2. Check the continuity between the wire harness side connectors.

      Standard:

    1. OK : Replace Transponder Key ECU Assy 
    2. NG : Repair Or Replace Harness And Connector
