Water Temperature Control Assembly Inspection
- Remove the outlet fitting, water temperature sensor, bracket and gasket from the water temperature control assembly.
- Immerse the water temperature control assembly with only the thermostat assembled in the antifreeze and heat the antifreeze slowly.
- Check the opening temperature of the valve.
Valve opening temperature: 105 ± 1.5°C (221 ± 34.7°F)
Full opening temperature: 120°C (248°F)
If the valve opening temperature is different from the specification, replace the thermostat.
- Check the lift of the valve.
Unfolding lift: 8 mm (0.3 in.) or more at 120°C (248°F)
If the lift of the valve is out of specification, replace the water temperature control assembly (WTC).
Good
- Fault might be intermittent and caused either by poor contact in connectors or wiring harness, or it has been repaired and control module memory is not cleared yet. Thoroughly check terminal of 12V battery, all connectors (and connections) for looseness, bending, corrosion, contamination, deterioration, and/or damage. Repair or replace as necessary and Go to "VERIFICATION OF REPAIR " procedure.
- If no problems were found with the circuits or connectors, replace the ECTS #1 and Go to "VERIFICATION OF REPAIR " procedure.
No Good
- Carefully re-do troubleshooting steps.
- If no problems were found with the inspection, replace the thermostat or water temperature control assembly and Go to "VERIFICATION OF REPAIR " procedure.
