Repair Procedures: Removal

  1. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  2. Drain the coolant.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "COOLANT ")

  3. Remove the air duct and the air cleaner assembly.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "AIR CLEANER ")

  4. Remove the battery and battery tray.

    (Refer to Engine Electrical System - "BATTERY ")

  5. Disconnect the solenoid valve connector (A) and inhibitor switch connector (B).

  6. Remove the shift cable (C) after loosening the nut (A) and bolts (B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 7.8 - 11.8 N.m (0.8 - 1.2 kgf.m, 5.8 - 8.7 lb.ft)
    2. 14.7 - 21.6 N.m (1.5 - 2.2 kgf.m, 10.9 - 15.9 lb.ft)

  7. Remove the ground line after loosening the bolt (A).

  8. Remove the wiring from the brackets (A, B).

  9. Remove the wiring bracket (A) from the valve body cover.

  10. Remove the coolant pipe by loosening bolts (A) after removing the hose.

    Tightening torque: 

    8.8 - 13.7 N.m (0.9 - 1.4 kgf.m, 6.5 - 10.1 lb.ft)

  11. Remove the transaxle upper mounting bolts (A-2ea) and the starter mounting bolts (B-1ea).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 42.2 - 53.9 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb.ft)
    2. 49.0 - 63.7 N.m (5.0 - 6.5 kgf.m, 36.2 - 47.0 lb.ft)

  12. Remove the covers (A).

  13. Assemble the engine support fixture on the engine room.

    (Refer to Special Service Tools - "ENGINE SUPPORT FIXTURE ASSEMBLY DRAWING ")

  14. Remove the under cover.

    (Refer to Engine Mechanical System - "ENGINE ROOM UNDER COVER ")

  15. Remove the front wheel guard.

    (Refer to Body - "FRONT WHEEL GUARD ")

  16. Support the transaxle on a jack.
  17. Remove the cover (A).

  18. Remove the transaxle mounting bracket bolts (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    88.3 - 107.9 N.m (9.0 - 11.0 kgf.m, 65.1 - 79.8 lb.ft)

  19. Remove the transaxle support bracket (A).

    Tightening torque: 

    58.9 - 78.5 N.m (6.0 - 8.0 kgf.m, 43.4 - 57.9 lb.ft

  20. Remove the sub frame assembly.

    (Refer to Suspension system - "SUB FRAME ")

  21. Remove the drive shaft assembly.

    (Refer to Driveshaft and axle - "FRONT DRIVESHAFT ")

  22. Remove the transfer assembly.

    (4WD vehicle only)

    (Refer to 4 Wheel Drive System - "FRONT WHEEL TRANSFER ASSEMBLY ")

  23. Remove the roll support bracket (A).

  24. Loosen the starter mounting bolt (A).

  25. Remove the cover (A).

  26. Remove the torque converter mounting bolts (A-6ea) by rotating the crankshaft.

    NOTE:
    • When installing, lubricant should be applied on thread of bolt before tightening.
    • When installing, Tighten the bolts loosely, and then tighten the bolts to the specified torque.
  27. Support the transaxle safely by using the jack.
  28. Loosen the transaxle mounting bolts (A, B).

    Tightening torque: 

    1. 42.2 - 48.1 N.m (4.3 - 4.9 kgf.m, 31.1 - 35.4 lb.ft)
    2. 42.2 - 54.0 N.m (4.3 - 5.5 kgf.m, 31.1 - 39.8 lb.ft)

    NOTE: After mounting the automatic transaxle to the engine by pushing the automatic transaxle, tighten the mounting bolts after check that there is no gap (A) between the torque converter housing (B) and the engine block (C).

  29. After separating the transaxle from the engine, remove the transaxle by lowering the jack slowly.
    NOTE: Be careful not to damage other nearby systems or parts when removing the transaxle assembly.
