Inspection Procedure
- PROBLEM VERIFICATION
- Connect a Hi-Scan (Pro) to the data link connector.
- Start the engine and monitor the MAFS signals.
- Specification (MAFS signal voltage):
0.6 ~ 1.0 V at idle
1.7 ~ 2.0 V at 3000 rpm
- Specification (MAFS signal voltage):
Is signal within specification?
- No: Go to next step.
- Yes: Problem is intermittent or was repaired and ECM memory was not cleared. See INTERMITTENT PROBLEM INSPECTION PROCEDURE ..
- CHECK MAFS AND ECM CONNECTORS
Check the MAFS and ECM for poor connection, misplaced, bent, loose or corroded terminals. See CONNECTOR INSPECTION PROCEDURE .
Are both connectors good?
- Yes: Go to next step.
- No: Repair or replace it.
- CHECK FOR SHORT TO POWER IN HARNESS
- Turn ignition switch to OFF position and disconnect MAFS and ECM connectors.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position.
- Measure voltage between terminal 3 of the MAFS harness connector and chassis ground. Specification (Resistance): below 0.5 V
Is voltage within specification?
- Yes: Go to next step.
- No: Repair short to power in harness.
- CHECK MAFS SIGNAL
- Reconnect the ECM and MAFS connectors.
- Connect a Hi-Scan (Pro) to the data link connector.
- Start the engine and monitor the MAFS signals.
- Specification (MAFS signal voltage):
0.6 ~ 1.0 V at idle
1.7 ~ 2.0 V at 3000 rpm
- Specification (MAFS signal voltage):
Is signal within specification?
- Yes: Proceed with ECM PROBLEM INSPECTION PROCEDURE .
- No: Replace MAFS.
