  1. Check Air Cleaner.
    1. Check the air cleaner for dirt, blockage, or damage.
    2. Is the air cleaner damaged or clogged with dirt?

      YES

      NO

      • Go to " 2 Check Intake System for Air Leak" as below.
  2. Check Intake System for Air Leak.
    1. Check intake tube, breather hose and MAFS for any sources of air leaks.
    2. Are there any cracks in intake tube, MAFS or breather hose and are all bands loose and incorrectly installed?

      YES

      NO

      • Go to " 3 Check Throttle Position Sensor" as below.
  3. Check Throttle Position Sensor.
    1. Disconnect TPS connector and measure resistance between terminals "1" and "4" of the TPS connector. Specification: Approx. 3.5~6.5 kΩ (with throttle valve fully closed) at 20°C (68°F)
    2. With still TPS connector disconnected, measure resistance between terminals "3" and "4" of the TPS2 connector.
    3. With still TPS connector disconnected, measure resistance between terminals "3" and "4" of the TPS2 connector.
    4. Operate the throttle valve slowly from the idle position to the full open position and verify that the TPS resistance changes smoothly in proportion with the throttle valve opening angle.

Specification: TPS resistance changes smoothly in proportion with the throttle valve opening angle.

    5. Is the measured resistance of TPS within specifications?

      YES

      NO

      • Substitute with a known-good TPS and check for proper operation. If the problem is corrected, replace TPS and then go to "VERIFICATION OF VEHICLE REPAIR " procedure.
