Driver Monitoring System Module (DMSM)

The DMSM system consists of a DMC, a set of infrared LEDs (Infrared Lighting 1 and Infrared Lighting 2) and the DMSM that modulates these components, processes the images, and is able to classify the drivers status and behavior in terms of attention and fatigue based on detecting and monitoring the drivers head and eye movements. In essence the DMSM is responsible for detecting and reporting a distracted or drowsy driver. The system uses its own internal algorithm to implement a 0-100 scale in determining just how distracted or how drowsy the driver is. In this scale, 100 represents the highest levels of either state. The lower the number the less distracted or drowsy the driver.
The DMSM system is responsible for capturing and analyzing the necessary driver's characteristics, namely their eyes and head, based solely on digital images captured via the DMC over LVDS.
The DMSM system extracts and tracks the behavior of the facial parameters from each frame captured, which typically consists of the following:
- Eyes and pupil
- Eyelid opening
- Blink duration
- Blink frequency
- Corneal reflection from the infrared LEDs
- Mouth
- Nose
- 3-D eye gaze vector
- 3-D head pose vector
- Zone tracking
The DMSM store five previous image from a rolling buffer in non-volatile memory. GPS, year, month, day, hour, minute and second are stored for each respective image.
The DMSM broadcasts its capability over CAN-FD to the CADM-Mid.
