Initial Installation - LHD
- Disconnect and insulate the negative battery cable. If the vehicle is equipped with an intelligent battery sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector before disconnecting the negative battery cable from the battery.NOTE:
Before starting the installation procedure, check that the control module is compatible with the vehicle model on which it will be installed.
Carefully follow the instructions on positioning and securing the control module described in this procedure. Failure to respect indications may lead to incorrect system operation.
- Make a note or take a photo of the data on the label (1) at the rear of the module. This data is necessary for the test procedure at the end of the installation.
- Apply a strip of biadhesive Velcro to the back of the T-box module.
- Verify that the Coroplast tape (2) around the module wiring reaches the connector. Add some Coroplast tape if necessary.
- Remove the Steering Column Opening. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, REMOVAL
.
- Using a trim stick or equivalent, release the retaining tabs (1, 2) and remove closeout panel (3) located between the A-pillar trim and the front scuff plate.
- Remove the front door sill scuff plate (1).
- Accessing from the front of the floor console and using a trim stick, disengage the retaining tabs (2) for the front gap hider and remove the gap hider (4).
- Using isopropyl alcohol or heptane, clean the contact surface of the bracket (1) on which the T-box will be fitted.NOTE:
When using chemical products, carefully follow the safety instructions on the safety data sheet. The safety data sheet must be provided to the consumer by the supplier.
- Apply a strip of Coroplast tape approximately 10 cm (4 in.) long to the clean surface (1). Cover the sharp edge of the bracket to protect the T-box.
- Position the T-box (1a) on the bracket with the connector socket facing towards the front of the vehicle. Secure it with double-sided adhesive tape and two cable ties (1b).
- Connect the wire harness connector (1) to the T-box.
- Remove fuse F43
(+30) (1a) from the Body Control Module (BCM) and insert fuse tap of the wiring for KL30. Connect the wire harness (1b) in the position previously occupied by fuse F43
of the BCM.
- Disconnect the wire harness connector C4
(1) from the BCM, and remove the protective cover.NOTE:
Be sure on the next step to interrupt the cable at a distance of 150-200mm from the connector to be able to completely cover the work performed with new tape.
- Use two signal taps (1) (cross section area 0.35mm) to connect the two wires CAN L
and CAN H
from the wiring in the positions corresponding to pins 37 (CAN L)
and 38 (CAN H)
, respectively.
- Find the wire corresponding to PIN 33
and use a signal tap (1) (cross section area 0.75 mm) to connect KL-15
to the wire.
- Apply Coroplast tape (1) around the signal taps to prevent them from opening accidentally or creating noise.
- Install the protective cover and connect the wire harness connector C4
to the BCM.
- On the floor console, remove the ground nut (1a). Position the wire harness ground ring (1b) over the existent wires on the stud. Install the floor tunnel ground nut and tighten to the proper Torque Specifications.
- If there are previously removed wires connected to the ground stud, be careful to insert the earth wire of the T-Box harness so that it is offset correctly (1) by at least 45° with respect to the previous ones. Do NOT
stack the ring terminals (2).
- Gather the wiring (1a) and secure it to the existing vehicle wiring using cable ties (1b).
- Under the steering column, secure the section of wiring (1). Do not allow the wiring to hang without being secured (2).
- On the side of the floor console, secure the section of ground wire (1). Do not allow the wiring to hang without being secured (2).
- In the front door sill scuff panel area, gather the wiring (1a) and secure it with a cable tie (1b) to the existent vehicle wiring (1c).
- Install the left side floor console gap hider (4).
- Align the tabs and hand tap to engage the retaining clips securing the door sill scuff plate (1).
- Position the closeout trim panel (3) located between the A-pillar trim and the front scuff plate. Seat the retaining tabs (1, 2) fully.
- Install the steering column opening. Refer to COVER, STEERING COLUMN OPENING, INSTALLATION
.NOTE:
Using the scan tool, select the "Connected Services " tab, select "Mopar Connect" and choose "Test-Operation check" option. Start a new test and complete steps 2 and 3 of the "Test App" manual (which can be downloaded from the Help section).
- Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector.NOTE:
Complete the test procedure to check that the installation is operating correctly (to resume a previously suspended procedure, see step 9 of the "Test App" manual). To access the Test procedure, connect to the scan tool, select the "Connected Services" tab, select "MOPAR Connect" and choose the "Test- Operation check" option.
- On completion of installation of the T-box module, connect the diagnosis instrument to the car's OBD socket, locate the BCM module and check for errors.
