Removal And Installation: Installation

Pull the shifter cable and plate assembly through the opening in the floor pan.
Install the shifter cable grommet and plate assembly nuts and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

Install the exhaust heat shield (1).
Install the rear exhaust muffler. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION 1.3L or REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION 2.4L .

Attach the shifter cable (1) to the clip on top of the transmission.

Attach the shifter cable (1) to the shifter cable bracket.

Connect the shifter cable end (1) to the transmission manual lever.

Insert the shifter cable through the gear shifter and attach the shifter cable retention clip (2).

Install the shifter cable adjustment clip (1).
Install the floor console. Refer to CONSOLE, FLOOR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
Connect the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), connect the IBS connector first before connecting the negative battery cable.
Verify shifter cable adjustment. Refer to CABLE, SHIFT, ADJUSTMENTS .
