Removal And Installation: Removal

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .

  2. Remove the fastener (1) from the rear torque strut.
  3. Use a jack stand to rotate the front of the drivetrain upwards.

  4. Install the special tool (#2075300030, Remover, Driveshaft Front Joint) (1) to the driveshaft (2) with tapered bore of the tool towards the driveshaft joint boot.

  5. Using a prybar (2) to pry against the special tool (#2075300030, Remover, Driveshaft Front Joint) (1) separate the driveshaft from the PTU.
    NOTE:

    If the driveshaft is difficult to separate from the PTU, try rotating the driveshaft 30°, 90° AND 180° to alter the position of the retaining ring and possibly reducing the force necessary to separate the driveshaft from the PTU.

  6. Remove and DISCARD  the retention ring on the output shaft of the PTU.

  7. Using a long piece of wood or similar, fasten it to the driveshaft with several cable ties in order to keep the driveshaft from over-articulating during removal and installation.
  8. Create a index mark on the driveshaft and pinion flange.

  9. Remove and DISCARD  the driveshaft bolts (1). Separate the driveshaft from the pinion flange.

  10. Remove the fasteners (1) from the driveshaft support bearing and separate from the body.

  11. Remove the fasteners (1) from the driveshaft support bearing and separate from the body.
  12. Remove the driveshaft from the vehicle.
