Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR ANY SERVICE BULLETINS OR PCM SOFTWARE UPDATES
- Check for any applicable Service Bulletins or Flash updates related to the DTC.
Are there any applicable Service Bulletins or Flash updates?
Yes
- Perform the applicable repair.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 2
- Check for any applicable Service Bulletins or Flash updates related to the DTC.
- READ AND RECORD DTCS AND ENVIRONMENTAL DATA - ERASE DTCS AND CHECK FOR THE DTC TO RETURN
- With the scan tool, read DTCs in all Electronic Control Units (ECUs) and record on the repair order.
- For future reference, with the scan tool, run and save a vehicle Scan Report and all related recorded data.
- With the scan tool, erase all DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off for a minimum of 10.0 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Start the engine and allow it to idle for up to one minute.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Perform the INTERMITTENT CONDITION diagnostic procedure. Refer to INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK FOR OTHER DTCS
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
Are there any EVAP System, Turbo system, fuel or air handling, Throttle Body or Crankcase Pressure Sensor circuit DTCs active or pending?
Yes
- Perform the applicable diagnostic procedure(s). Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX .
No
- Go To 4
- Refer to the recorded DTCs.
- CHECK THE AIR FILTER
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove and inspect the Air Filter and housing inlet for snow, soiling or excessive dirt and debris which may cause air flow restriction.
Were any of these problems found?
Yes
- Replace the Air Filter or remove the obstruction.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK FOR INTAKE SYSTEM LEAKS OR RESTRICTIONS NOTE:
Damaged, restricted or poorly connected Intake System and Turbocharger System related plumbing can cause this DTC to set.
- Inspect all intake air system and Turbocharger related plumbing, hoses/tubes and clamps for leaks or damage.
- Inspect all boost pressure system hoses for leaks or restrictions.
Were any problems found?
Yes
- Repair or replace as necessary.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- CHECK THE EJECTOR TEE HOSES FOR PROPER ORIENTATION AT THE INTAKE MANIFOLD AND PURGE SOLENOID
- Verify that the Ejector Tee hose connections at the Intake Manifold and Purge Solenoid are correct and not switched. Refer to the Evaporative Emissions System information.
Are the hoses connected correctly?
Yes
- Go To 7
No
- Switch the hoses to the correct ports on the Ejector Tee.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
- Verify that the Ejector Tee hose connections at the Intake Manifold and Purge Solenoid are correct and not switched. Refer to the Evaporative Emissions System information.
- CHECK THE EGR VALVE COLD HOSE FOR LEAKS
- Visually inspect the EGR Cold Hose for proper installation, damage, and signs of leaking.
Were any issues found with the EGR System?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 8
- Visually inspect the EGR Cold Hose for proper installation, damage, and signs of leaking.
- CHECK THE PCV TUBE FOR LEAKS OR OTHER DAMAGE
- Turn the ignition off.
- Inspect the PCV Tube and connections for signs of leaks or other damage.
Is the PCV Tube broken, leaking, or otherwise damaged?
Yes
- Replace the damaged hose in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 9
- CHECK FOR THE PURGE SOLENOID LEAKING
- Disconnect the Purge Solenoid harness connector to prevent the solenoid from being energized.
- Remove the tube from the Purge Solenoid that connects to the Ejector Tee at the other end.
- Connect a vacuum gauge to the Purge Solenoid port.
- Start the engine and allow it to idle.NOTE:
The Purge Solenoid should be sealed with the solenoid de-energized and no vacuum should be present.
- Remove the tube from the Purge Solenoid that connects to the Intake Manifold at the other end.
- Connect the vacuum gauge to the Purge Solenoid port.
Is vacuum present on the vacuum gauge at either port?
Yes
- Replace the Purge Solenoid in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 10
- CHECK THE INTAKE MANIFOLD FOR LEAKS
- Check the Intake Manifold for vacuum leaks or damage.
Were any issues or leaks found at the Intake Manifold?
Yes
- Perform the appropriate repair in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 9
- Check the Intake Manifold for vacuum leaks or damage.
- CHECK THE PCV VALVE
- Turn the engine off.
- Remove the PCV Valve from the Valve Cover.
- Verify the check valve is not stuck or sticking restricting air flow.
Were any issues or leaks found with the PCV Valve?
Yes
- Replace the PCV Valve in accordance with the Service Information.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Check and repair any exhaust restrictions, valvetrain or engine mechanical conditions that can cause low engine compression.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
