Right Balance Shaft

CAUTION:

Always replace the balance shaft bearings whenever the balance shaft is removed. The bearing assembly clasp may have worn which if reused can result in the bearing assembly lifting off the balance shaft journal during balance shaft installation which will cause subsequent engine failure.

  1. Remove the engine oil pump drive chain. Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL  .
  2. If required, remove the balance shaft sprocket

    Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, REMOVAL  .

    NOTE:

    Removal of the balance shaft sprocket is not necessary for balance shaft service.

  3. Remove the retaining bolt (1a) and remove the right balance shaft assembly (1b).

  4. Remove and discard both balance shaft needle bearings (1) from the balance shaft (2).
