OVERVIEW

This bulletin involves diagnosis and if necessary replacing the fuel tank and O-ring due to a P0461 Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC).

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles within the following markets/countries: North America.

NOTE: This bulletin applies to vehicles built on or after April 12, 2019 (MDH 0412XX) and on or before May 16, 2019 (MDH 0516XX) equipped with a 3.6L V6 24V VVT Engine Upgrade I W/ESS (Sales Code ERC).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION

Customers may experience a Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) illumination. Upon further investigation the technician may find that the following Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) has been set:

P0461 - Fuel Level Sensor 1 Performance.

In addition, the customer may notice one or more of the following:

The fuel gauge is not accurate.
The fuel gauge is stuck.

DIAGNOSIS

Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in DelaerCONNECT/Service Library, verify all related systems are functioning as designed. If DTCs or symptom conditions, other than the ones listed above are present, record the issues on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.

If the customer describes the symptom/condition listed above, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Replace the fuel tank. Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT/Service Library under: Service Info 14 - Fuel System/Fuel Delivery, Gas/Tank, Fuel/Removal and Installation.
Clear all DTCs that may have been set in conjunction with this repair.
