Removal And Installation: Installation
NOTE:
A service replacement SCCM is shipped with the clockspring centered and with a molded plastic lock installed. This lock should not be broken off until the SCCM has been installed on the steering column.
- Position the SCCM close to the top of the steering column jacket.
- Connect the SCCM wire harness connectors to the back of the SCCM.
- Align the SCCM to allow the locating screw to be installed into the steering column on the top, rear of the SCCM.
- Install and securely tighten the centering attachment screw.
- Tighten the clamp screw securely to prevent the SCCM from moving.
- Engage the four integral inner shroud retainers with the SCCM. Be certain all four integral inner shroud retainers are engaged with the SCCM.
- Install and securely tighten the four inner shroud screws for the SCCM.
- Install the outer shroud onto the steering column. Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION

- If a new SCCM is being installed, break off the plastic lock (1) that secures the clockspring rotor (2) to the SCCM housing to maintain clockspring centering. Rotate the lock (1) towards the center of the SCCM to break it off in the SCCM housing.
- When the lock (1) has been broken off properly, it should have one leg (2) longer than the other when viewed from the side.
- Install the steering wheel onto the steering column. Refer to WHEEL, STEERING, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
- Move the steering column back to the fully raised (up) position.
