Removal And Installation: Installation

WARNING:

To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbags, airbag curtains, knee blocker, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect the Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS)/negative battery cable assembly from the negative battery post, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.

NOTE:

A diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to initialize the new module before the vehicle can be operated.

  1. Position the ESL module on the steering column.
  2. Install the two bolts and tighten to the proper specification. Refer to TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS  .
  3. Connect the ESL module wire harness connector.
  4. Install the steering column. Refer to COLUMN, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  5. Connect the negative battery cable(s). Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  6. Connect the diagnostic scan tool to the vehicle.
  7. Navigate to the Body Control Modules (BCM) "Misc Functions" menu.
  8. Select and run the "Immobilizer ECU Replace" routine. If other immobilizer components are replaced with the ESL, review the IMMOBILIZER COMPONENTS AND REPLACEMENT GUIDE before performing this routine. Refer to IMMOBILIZER COMPONENTS AND REPLACEMENT GUIDE  .
