NOTE:
If this Electronic Control Unit (ECU) is being replaced with a new unit, a diagnostic scan tool MUST be used to align the PROXI configuration data into the new ECU. Follow the routine outlined in the diagnostic scan tool for PROXI Configuration Alignment under Body Control Module (BCM) Miscellaneous Functions menu.
- Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
- Remove the steering column shroud. Refer to SHROUD, STEERING COLUMN, REMOVAL

- Disconnect the Steering Column Control Module (SCCM) wire harness connector (1) and move the wiring aside.
- Use a hammer and chisel to remove the headless fasteners (2a) and extract the Electronic Steering Lock (ESL) module (2b) from the steering column.
- Disconnect the wire harness connector (1a) and remove the ESL module (1b).
