Damper, Vibration: Installation

NOTE:

When installing a new damper after the damper has spun, the timing sprocket must be replaced.

  1. Allow the engine to cool to room/ambient temperature prior to performing the removal or installation procedure.
    NOTE:

    The engine must be at room/ambient temperature before installing the damper.

  2. Using (special tool #2042300090, Installer, Front Damper), install the threaded rod into the crankshaft.
  3. Tighten the threaded rod until it is seated to the face of the crankshaft.

  4. Position the damper (2) on the crankshaft.
  5. Install the press washer, bearing, washer, and the press nut onto the threaded rod.
  6. Using Damper Installer and a deep well socket, press the damper onto the crankshaft until seated.
  7. Install a New vibration damper bolt (1).
  8. Position the (special tool #10386, Holder, Vibration Damper), onto the vibration damper pulley.
  9. Tighten the bolt to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Install the cooling fan. Refer to FAN, COOLING, INSTALLATION .
  11. Connect the negative battery cable.
