Removal And Installation

REMOVAL

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Remove the exhaust,

    .

  3. As an installation reference, carefully mark location of isolator (1) requiring removal on crossmember (2) (around isolator can flange) using a marker or crayon.

    Do not use a scratch awl to mark location.

  4. Support the rear control arm with a suitable device and remove the lower shock bolt (1).

  5. Remove the bolts (1, 2) securing the crossmember on the side of the vehicle being worked on.

  6. Disconnect the ride height sensor (1), if necessary.

  7. Lower the crossmember as necessary and assemble tools over isolator as shown in illustration using tool kits (special tool #2025900170, Kit, Bushing Installer-Remover) and (special tool #2026900170, Kit, Pressing Tool).
    NOTE:

    Prior to using special tools, lubricate Screw Assembly (special tool #8838-2, Screw Assembly) (1) threads to provide ease of use and promote tool longevity.

    NOTE:

    When installing thrust bearing, be sure to place hardened side toward bolt head.

  8. Tighten the screw assembly, pressing the isolator out of the crossmember and remove the tools with the isolator.

CAUTION:

It is very important that isolator be installed in same position as original to maintain vehicle ride quality and isolator longevity. That is why isolator, once installed, needs to closely match reference marks applied upon removal of original isolator.

INSTALLATION

  1. Position isolator (1) on crossmember (2) isolator bore aligning isolator can flange with reference marks applied during removal.

  2. Prior to using special tools, lubricate Screw Assembly (special tool #8838-2, Screw Assembly) (1) threads to provide ease of use and promote tool longevity.
    NOTE:

    When installing thrust bearing, be sure to place hardened side toward bolt head.

    NOTE:

    A mixture of soap and water may be used to aid installation of the isolator.

  3. Assemble tools over isolator as shown in illustration using tool kits (special tool #2025900170, Kit, Bushing Installer-Remover) and (special tool #2026900170, Kit, Pressing Tool).
  4. Tighten the screw assembly (special tool #8838-2, Screw Assembly), pressing the isolator into crossmember. Install isolator until isolator can flange contacts surface of crossmember.
  5. Remove tools.

  6. Connect the ride height sensor (1), if necessary.

  7. Install the bolts (1, 2) securing the crossmember on the side of the vehicle being worked on and tighten to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .

  8. Support the rear control arm with a suitable device and Install the lower shock bolt (1).
  9. Tighten the bolt (1) to the proper torque specification. Refer to TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS .
  10. Install the exhaust. Refer to MUFFLER, EXHAUST, INSTALLATION .
