Engine Block: Crankshaft: Installation: Installation

  1. Select the proper main bearings. Refer to Engine/Engine Block/BEARING(S), Crankshaft - Standard Procedure .
  2. Install main bearings in block and caps, and lubricate bearings.
  3. Position the crankshaft into the cylinder block.
  4. Install the thrust washers (1).

    CAUTION:

    The overuse of oils on the threads may cause a Hydro-Lock condition at which may cause inaccurate readings. Incorrect torque values may occur.

    NOTE:

    The main cap crossbolts are torqued after final torque of the main cap bolts. Always use a new crossbolts.

  5. Clean and apply a light oil film to all cap bolts. Install all main bearing caps (1). Install all M12 cap bolts and alternately tighten in two steps using the following sequence.

  6. • Step 1 - 28 N.m (20 ft. lbs.).
  7. • Step 2 - Turn main cap bolts an additional 90°.
  8. Install the M8 crossbolts with attached washer/gasket. Starting with crossbolt A, tighten each crossbolt to 31 N.m (23 ft. lbs.).
  9. Repeat crossbolt tightening procedure.
  10. Measure crankshaft end play. Refer to Engine/Engine Block/BEARING(S), Crankshaft - Standard Procedure .

  11. Position the connecting rods onto the crankshaft and install the rod bearing caps. Refer to ROD, PISTON AND CONNECTING, INSTALLATION, 5.7L .

  12. Install timing drive (2). Refer to CHAIN AND SPROCKETS, TIMING, INSTALLATION, 5.7L .

  13. Install oil pump. Refer to PUMP, ENGINE OIL, INSTALLATION, 5.7L .

  14. Install the timing chain case cover (1). Refer to COVER(S), ENGINE TIMING, INSTALLATION, 5.7L .

  15. Install the rear main seal and retainer. Refer to RETAINER, CRANKSHAFT REAR OIL SEAL, INSTALLATION, 5.7L .
  16. Install the windage tray/oil pan gasket.
  17. Install the oil pick up tube.
  18. Install the oil pan. Refer to PAN, OIL, INSTALLATION, 5.7L  and PAN, OIL, AWD, INSTALLATION, 5.7L .

  19. Install the vibration damper. Refer to DAMPER, VIBRATION, INSTALLATION, 5.7L .
  20. Install the engine. Refer to INSTALLATION, 5.7L .
  21. Connect the negative battery cable.
